Real Madrid vs CSKA Moscow live streaming online 2013 for free.It was 50 years ago later this year, in July of 1963, that Madrid and CSKA met for the first time, when pan-European competition was just five years old. During the next 20 years, they largely dominated the scene. By 1983, Madrid had accumulated seven Euroleague titles and CSKA four. Whenever they met it was a clash of titans with the balance of power in European basketball almost always in play.
The same can be said tonight, even though their share of continental titles has been limited since, with Madrid winning its last one in 1995, while CSKA added two more, in 2006 and 2008.
Curiously enough, their recent resurgences were solidified under the same head coach, Ettore Messina, who directed CSKA to those latter titles, not to mention two more runner-up finishes in the alternating years, 2007 and 2009. He also assembled the Madrid team that ended that club’s 15-year Final Four drought in 2011, although he resigned from the bench during that season’s Top 16, just a month before that accomplishment was complete. Messina returns tonight with CSKA again, making his first visit as an opposing coach since leaving Madrid.
Apart from Coach Messina’s return, there is plenty that makes tonight a can’t-miss event. Madrid is the most dominant home team in the Euroleague this season and CSKA the only undefeated road team. CSKA has the best overall record in the competition, 13-2, while Madrid is one of just two teams with perfect 5-0 records in the Top 16. CSKA has the highest average team performance rating for the full season. Both teams rank seventh or better in assists, steals, blocks and two-point percentage. Madrid is first in rebounds, CSKA second in three-point percentage. You get the idea: no two teams have been more consistently impressive this season than Madrid and CSKA.

Real Madrid’s excellent run of form will be tested by the visit of the mighty CSKA Moscow, one of the few teams that can still challenge the Whites’ supremacy in the Top 16. With a 5-0 record, Real Madrid will try to maintain their unbeaten run in the Palacio de los Deportes and get a win that will begin to clear the way towards the playoffs. It would also be Whites’ best Euroleague winning streak in history.

It will not be an easy task against a team of the Muscovites’ stature, who have won on their seven away trips this season and come into the game wounded after suffering a defeat at the hands of Unicaja in the Megasport Sports Palace. Both teams could tip the game in their favor with their excellent offensive games. There is just one point between them in their scoring average. It will be a contest of power against power, with both sides having infinite assets to break defenses. The home team have taken a forward step with their defense and have become very solid at the back, which culminated in them leaving a team of the standing of Panathinaikos with their worst score in history on their home court, in the last round of games

Pocius’ absence should not affect a Real Madrid team that must maintain a high intensity throughout the game. The Whites’ outside line, with Draper, Llull, Sergio Rodriguez, Suarez, Carroll and Rudy, have an arduous task against a visiting team with great game on the perimeter, where their effectiveness with three-pointers stands out. More than 40%, with Teodosic, one of the current best European point guards, the Americans Weems and Christmas, who has 57%, Khryapa and Micov (both above 50% for three-pointers). Aaron Jackson, formerly of Bilbao, and Papaloukas, complete the Russians’ artillery. Pablo Laso’s team has sufficient arguments to counter them. Four of his players, Rudy, Mirotic, Carroll and Reyes have an average of more than ten points per game.

On the inside there will also be a lot of equality. Real Madrid’s inside quintet will be up against an opponent who have offensive talent to spare and great physical power, led by former NBA player Khryapa and Krstic as a luxury sidekick alongside the 2.13m of Kaun. The Serbian power forward is a dominant player, so it will be an important part of Hettsheimer and Begic’s roles to stop him. The second stands out for his versatility. Reyes and Slaughter’s intensity in defense and Mirotic’s talent will need to be on show.
